RDRS Bangladesh was established on February 8, 1972 as ‘Rangpur-Dinajpur Rehabilitation Service (RDRS)’ as the Bangladesh country program of Geneva-based international donor organization Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service (LWF/DWS). The activities of this organization began by providing humanitarian and development assistance (eg relief, rehabilitation etc.)

to the war-torn people of the northwestern region of Bangladesh, especially the greater Rangpur-Dinajpur region.Later, on June 16, 1997, it was registered under the Trust Act and started functioning as a national NGO under the name “RDRS Bangladesh”. Currently RDRS Bangladesh is a national humanitarian and development organization
governed by a “Board of Trustees”. Apart from development and microfinance programs, the organization has several well-equipped units/departments to manage and support all development and emergency programs of the organization. These include finance, human resource, administrative, audit, monitoring and evaluation, training and program development units/departments.
(2) Initiatives of RDRS to help poor students:
RDRS strongly believes that quality education is of immense importance in building a prosperous nation (in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and create lifelong learning opportunities for all).
For this reason, more attention has been paid to increasing access to education and increasing the rate of education. It has been observed that significant progress has been made in the field of education in the region with the joint support of Bangladesh Government and NGOs. Besides, it has also been observed that a large number of talented students cannot continue their education due to poverty and other social barriers.
RDRS Bangladesh has been conducting scholarship programs for the past to help students from poor families to continue their studies. Moreover, RDRS has been providing financial assistance to poor students since 2015 with the help of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). In 2021, RDRS started offering scholarships to poor students for higher education on the advice of the Microfinance Regulatory Authority (MRA).Considering the mentioned context, as part of social responsibility, RDRS has decided to launch the scholarship program in the light of the new policy of self-financing as per the decision of the board of trustees of the organization.
